Kryptopyroles
What are Kryptopyrroles?
Often people with depression or other mental health issues have pyroluria, a disorder characterized by an abnormal over-production of a group of chemicals called kryptopyrroles. The pyrroles bind with vitamin B6, then zinc to deplete the body’s supply. Mood problems are a consequence of the vitamin B6 and zinc deficiencies which can be corrected with ongoing supplementation. Pyroluria seems to be a familial or genetic component, often with a family history of mental illness and all-girl families. Pyroluria is a stress-related condition and when symptoms are brought on by stress, pyroluria should be considered. Pyroluria may be present in 10% of the normal population, 30% of patients with attention-deficient hyperactive disorder (ADHD), 27% Schizophrenics as well as Autism and depression.
